How to prepare for IELTS in 3 months: a week-by-week plan
Three months is a realistic timeframe for IELTS prep if you’re already at B2 and study systematically rather than sporadically. Here’s the plan most of our students follow.
Weeks 1–2: diagnostics
A first mock test under real timing — without it, there’s no way to know which module is dragging down your overall score. It often turns out the problem isn’t the language but the strategy: mistiming Reading or not knowing the Writing Task 1 format.
Weeks 3–8: working module by module
Each week — focus on one or two modules in turn, not everything at once. Writing and Speaking need regular teacher feedback — this is where even students with a good language level most often lose points.
The biggest mistake in IELTS prep is studying the language instead of studying the exam format. Those are two different skills.
Reading and Listening improve through volume of timed practice — it’s important to train under conditions close to the real exam, not at a relaxed pace.
Weeks 9–12: mock exams
The final month — at least two full mock exams under real timing with error review. By this point your strategy should be second nature, and it’s just a matter of stabilizing the result.
